Every day Sunlight Puts Stress on Your Eyes
We always talk about sunglasses, let’s talk about lights this time to understand how sunglasses work to protect your eyes, and choosing the right sunglasses can give you long-term benefits. There are two types of light in general: visible light and non-visible light. In general, to normal people like us, RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) is the most common understanding of visible color of light. To the majority of people, RGB is harmless.
Advanced Protection Beyond UV
Then there is non-visible/invisible light, such as UV – Ultra Violet light and Infrared light. These two are invisible to the human eye since the spectrum of UV is below 400 nm in the light spectrum, and IR light is above 760 nm in the light spectrum.
This is also a reason why most sunglasses from the market are always labeled with UV 400. It means the sunglasses provide all UV protection. It is very common in sunglasses technology these days for UV 400.
The infrared light is the key light radiation that causes your eyes problems, such as heat, fatigue, and eye strain. IR light can penetrate through almost all of the sunglasses or polarized sunglasses in the market. It needs a special process with the lens coating to enable the sunglasses to have the ability to block the infrared.
So, Why Does Blocking Infrared Light (NIR) Matter?
-
Heat generation:
- The energy absorbed by your eye from infrared radiation causes significant warming, which can damage the lens and other parts of the eye.
-
Pupil dilation:
- The darkening effect of regular sunglasses causes your pupils to dilate, which allows more IR radiation to enter the eye, increasing the potential for harm.
-
Long-term effects:
- Prolonged exposure to high levels of IR radiation can lead to eye conditions like clouding of the lens (cataract).
While you're hiking or just doing everyday outdoor activities, you may not notice the damage caused by NIR, because it’s not always mentioned by most of the sunglasses’ manufacturers. Most of the lenses focus on UV metrics to enhance their clarity. But it is very important to know that for most outdoor enthusiasts and workers, staying cool and protecting from NIR can benefit your eyes to stay relaxed, minimizing distortion from excess light penetration.
Design for Near Infrared Protection
NINES® sunglasses are named after nine layers of process, specialized in lens coating procedures that add an additional layer to protect your eyes from NIR with UV protection. We created and patented our lenses' NIR protection technology as NIRTECH®, which involves a specific design lens process with NIR coating that is designed for near infrared protection with SHARP® Vision on our sunglasses’ lenses. This polarized lens technology aims to reduce glare on trails, rocks, and water. Keep your vision focus steady through changing light conditions, and vivid color improvement with low light shadows.
Perfect for Everyday Wear
NIRTECH® designs with the needs of clear vision for everyday people. Your daily commute, long-time outdoor working, and outdoor activities are all covered. We tested the NIRTECH® lens in the lab with real life situation that indicated significant blocking of harmful infrared light that go through to the sunglasses.
So, choosing the right sunglasses with real comfort and checking out our NIRTECH® sunglasses to feel the real changes. We have supported our anglers on the water with winning approval for decades, and we bring it to everyone every day with the best sunglasses.
